Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese marries Jodie Haydon, becoming the first sitting national leader in the country’s history to wed while in office. The couple exchanged vows on Saturday in a private ceremony held at The Lodge in Canberra. Only close family members, friends and a small number of ministers attended, keeping the event intimate and tightly secured.

Who is Jodie Haydon?

Albanese, 62, and Haydon, 45, have been together for five years. He proposed to her on Valentine’s Day last year. Born in 1979, Haydon has spent two decades working in the superannuation sector across banking and finance organisations. In 2022, she took up a position as a women’s officer after serving as a union delegate for the NSW Public Service Association.

Raised on the Central Coast by school-teacher parents, Haydon now serves as the Head of Strategic Partnerships at Teachers Mutual Bank.

The couple first met in March 2020 during a dinner event in Melbourne, where Haydon famously shouted “Up the Rabbitohs!”—a nod to Albanese’s beloved South Sydney Rabbitohs rugby league team. Haydon has shared that she realised her feelings for him after he was involved in a car accident in 2021.

She has been a familiar figure alongside Albanese throughout the 2022 and 2025 Australian federal election campaigns.

Albanese was previously married to Carmel Tebbutt for 19 years before their separation in early 2019.

A Private and Symbolic Wedding

The wedding details, including the date and location, were kept completely confidential for security reasons. Haydon was walked down the aisle by her parents, Bill and Pauline. Her five-year-old niece served as the flower girl, and Albanese’s dog, Toto, took the adorable role of ring bearer.
