Australia’s veteran prop James Slipper has announced his retirement from international rugby. His final game will be the Bledisloe Cup Test against the All Blacks this weekend in Perth.

Slipper, aged 36, ends a 16-year career with the Wallabies. He has earned 150 Test caps, making him Australia’s most-capped player. This achievement places him among rugby’s elite, alongside Alun Wyn Jones and Sam Whitelock.

It is a fitting farewell. Slipper made his debut in Perth in 2010, playing against England. Now, he will finish where it all began. He said representing the Wallabies has been “the proudest achievement” of his life.

Wallabies coach Joe Schmidt praised Slipper’s leadership and commitment. He described him as a “selfless leader” and an “ultimate team man.” Schmidt said Slipper’s experience and resilience shaped the team’s culture and success.

Slipper’s career has not been without challenges. In 2018, he faced a suspension but made a strong comeback. His return proved his strength and determination.

As he steps down, Slipper hopes young players will rise. He believes his retirement will open doors for new props. This change comes as Australia prepares to host the 2027 Rugby World Cup.

Fans and teammates have celebrated Slipper’s contribution. He leaves behind a legacy of passion, hard work, and loyalty to Australian rugby.
